I’m a former city-”girl” trying to become a country woman. I live in the Carolinas on 10 acres with Dearest Husband (DH) and 2 dogs, Auggie and Thomas. We hope to begin to raise a few beef cattle and grow a few veggies and fruit. I started this blog to let my family know how we are doing and what is going on in our lives. But I’m happy to share our adventures withe others as well. If you have any hints about country life I would like to learn!

Lord help me to learn to spell without spellcheck, manage to visit all that visit me, and post regularly - all in 5 minutes a day, so that I can clean house and take care of my family. Help me to not look at every occurrence in my life as a blog post, and to quit taking pictures of weird things to share as well. Please Lord, help me to stop talking about my blog friends as though they are next door neighbors or someone I have known all of my life. And help me dear Lord, to think of something witty and wise to post tomorrow. ~The Dust Bunny Hostage

Hello and congratulations on the Smiling J Farm’s considerable progress. As a nutritionist, am drawn to your providing our markets with healthier beef. Keep the country fires burning and enjoy the journey.

Thanks Karen. We have only harvested one animal but will have a few more ready before spring. We believe that Fayetteville may be a ready market for grass-fed beef.

Hi, I just got back from a trip out west to a mini cow ranch by my folks place in Utah, but I don’t want to ship it all the way out to NC. We are currently in Reaford and would love to get started on a couple of head of Low Line. I would love to stop by your place sometime after I get back from Afghanistan in May or June. I want to pick your brain as to what it’s going to take to get started on a tiny herd. Thanks.

Chad, We would be very happy to show you around our little place and share what we know about Lowlines. We have 5 of them right now. Two of them are expecting babies later this year. You can find a telephone number for us at local harvest or on our website. Thank you for writing us. And we are praying for all you guys and gals over there. Keep safe! Mary Daugherty
