Some of you know that my license plate tells everyone I’m a Doggie Mama. . . but this week I have the added pleasure of being a Cattle mama too!    DH and a number of his co-workers are in Europe this week on business.

It’s not my favorite thing to do, but since Saturday afternoon I’m the feeder, waterer and mover of our “ladies”.    They get to enjoy the front pasture in the late afternoon to early morning.  The grass is better and there is more of it.   In the morning after I feed them I move them to the back where there is much more shade.

They are really amazing animals.  I suppose it has something to do with the fact that they are mammals. . . but they like their routine.   Like the dogs do.  They know that at specific times of the day someone should be attending to them.  And if they don’t get the attention, they will CALL you!  And they will call!  some of them are more vical than others, just like people.   And it’s not just the girls.  We have a couple of vocal males too.

And speaking of which. . . DH says he has agreed to buy another male, he’s a full Dexter.  This one is still in-tact. . .   In other words it’s a bull.   This should be interesting.  He is a youngster so he’s not fully developed.  But once his secondary hormones start kicking in, my guess is that there will be some interesting goings on in the pasture.  I’ll have to let you know how things go.

Anyway, DH hopes to breed him to the three full Dexter females we have. . . My goodness we don’t even know if the first one we’ve bred has “killed the rabbit” yet.  I suppose these things take time!

Well, it’s another interesting week at the Smiling J Farm.  I hope you enjoy your week as much as I will here!
